Chin's Stylish Chinese Cuisine, Penang

I would say this is the best chinese restaurant that I've ever have in Penang. Yes, BEST! I'm not lying, not exaggerating, simply telling the truth.  Most of the time, when we go to certain good restaurants, there will be some famous dishes which are really taste good., on the other hand, there will be also some food served which you feel it is just 'so-so'. It is so hard to find a restaurant with ALL types of dishes that served are EQUALLY GOOD!! And, I found it with my new colleagues.

This is the entrance of the restaurant. If your eye sight are good enough, you can see the sentence 'Awarded - Best Chinese cuisine restaurant 2010-2012'. Actually, they won the award not only in Malaysia, but also in London. See? I don't lie, it's no point having a food blog promoting all sort of food no matter it's good or bad.

This is how the interior looks like, so grand and splendid. The feeling is just like stepping in a 5 star hotel restaurant. Normally, chinese restaurant doesn't decorate in such a way. The food in this restaurant is inclined to fine dining style. That day, we ordered the package of food, just like how we had during chinese wedding dinner. (But the portion and the amount of dishes served were far more than those typical chinese wedding dinner)

Let me show you the scrumptious dishes that made me had such conclusion.

COLD APPERTISERS

Century eggs in grill red pepper
Of course it still taste like century egg, but it is so 'Q' (chewy?) I guess that is what a century egg can do best.

Spicy Turnip Cubes
This is delightful.

Delicate Free Fungus

HOT APPERTISER

Chicken

 Sesame Prawn on Toast
The appearance might looks normal, but the taste is out of expectation - good!!

SPECIALTIES

Duck!!

The complete version before wrap up. Pay attention to the top of the photo! Yes, Small chilies, and I ATE it! For those friends who know me well, I don't eat spicy food, and I don't even take chilies sauce. But, this is the food that you HAVE TO put at least 1-2 pieces of chilies and it makes great difference of taste. What's the magic inside? Taste it and you will understand.

Hot Wok Fragrant Chicken
Yes, obviously my hand was shaking. Can't to be calmed in front of all delicious good.

Sauteed Vegetable with Red Rice Yeast

Soup with codfish
The clear soup with delight flavour, the best part is the freshness of the codfish merged with the soup and that brought the aroma. yummy~

Cod Fish + Prawn + Egg yolk = crab
That was what they told us. Surprisingly, it really tasted like crab, not a typical crab taste, but the tempting crab.

5-Colour Organic Unpolished Rice
I bet this is the best brown rice I've ever had, it is not the plain brown rice but the flavour is so rich. And, we discovered that it tasted even better when you mix the crab with the rice! They are perfect match!!

Steam Silver Cod Fish
I love to eat cod fish and I've tried a lot of steam codfish before. Throughout my eating experience, I learnt that Steam Cod Fish is never easy because the it will only taste good with certain level of softness and luscious gravy. Looks simple but it is complicated. And, of course, this dishes passed with flying colour.

Steamed Frog-leg in Bamboo Tube Pepper
First in my life time having a frog, we just mentioned about this during the day time with my colleague and it ended up in my mouth late at night. Nice try, it was not disgusting like what I imagined, in fact, it tasted as good as chicken.

DESSERT

Fried Banana with Maltose Candy
Special taste. Although they coated the fried banana with maltose candy but sweetness was just fine.

Sea Coconut

 Emperor Cake
It tasted exactly same with the nian yong pao. This properly the only dish that does not attract me much. I think it will taste better when it sit inside the pao.

That was the place that we had our lovely dinner. Life is so wonderful when you sit in such a decant restaurant with great food and great view, and most important with a group of wonderful people.

It might be costly, but it is definitely worth for the cost. You must try at least once and you will understand!

Day 8 Oamaru Part III

I missed out this important place in the previous blog posts regarding the South Island Trip. And, actually I noticed long time ago, laziness just drove me away from writing it. In order to complete my NZ diaries for my own SS (syok sendiri) in the future when I read it back, so I have no choice but to write it. Of course, I also hope to provide more information to those who are interested to have a trip to NZ.

Early in the morning, before we proceed to the next destination, we went to this must go place -Moeraki Boulder ( 30 minutes away from Oamaru). If you wish the see the most stunning view of the place, you have to confirm the best time with i site because you might have a hard time to look for a single 'ball' when it is high tide. Yes, doing homework is always important if you doesn't want to miss something great.

This was the 'ball' that we looked for. Who moved this big fake cemented ball here?? No!! It was natural!! It was here even before you were born! Pay respect please!

Some broken pieces scattered around the beach. Hmmm, look like gem inside! Never try to pick it back!! Everyone should give the chance to look on it!

You thought just one single ball on the beach? Wrong, there are heaps of them!!

 Found another special ball~

Last photo before we left. Those of you have high end camera please bring it and snap some good photos at this place.

Sun Yeong Wai Roasted Duck 新扬威烤鸭 @ Ipoh Jaya

Since small,  my parents always brought me to this restaurant - Sun Yeong Wai, when they were craving for roasted duck. Until now, we still always go to this shop when we need roasted duck as our meal!

The moment when you step in the restaurant, you will be surrounded by the Hong Kong style environment xiu lap pou (烧腊铺,barbecued pork?)

Quarter Roasedt Duck - RM12.00
Of course, since the big sign board mentioned Roasedt duck and this must be the dish that shouldn't miss out! The crispy and juicy roasted duck which served together with yummy dark sauce. (Yes, the lousy blogger forget to snap a picture on the important sauce) Remember choose the lower part (drumstick part) of the roast duck as that part is always the best.

Asam Fish - RM5.00 per piece

Except for the typical dishes like roast duck, roast chicken, barbecued pork, there are a few ala carte dishes like the economic rice for you to choose. Something that gonna surprise you is the asam fish in this restaurant  is tempting!! From the picture, you can see that the fish is the normal kampung fish but the best part to make it seductive is the rich, sourly asam gravy. Half bowl of your rice will be finished by just this average look Asam Fish.

Pamelo Juice - RM6.00
Lastly, a juice that I want to recommend is this pamelo juice. Everyone knows pamelo is the fruits that famous in Ipoh. Most of the outstation people willing to come Ipoh to grab some pamelo especially during the Chinese New Year. But, this is the first shop that I know selling Pamelo juice!! The juice is so fresh and the taste is exactly same with the taste when you are eating the pamelo. Of course, the quality might be varied due to the different qualities of every pamelo. Except for the slight expensive cost for the cup, else this is gonna a choice~

Feel that half year is not enough for you to stay in New Zealand? Wanna enjoy longer in this lovely land of long white cloud (Aotearoa)? Very easy, apply for extension! Stay for another 3 months with legal visa!

How how how?? Teach me now!!

Requirement
You must work at least 3 months (12 weeks) in horticulture/ viticulture industries with proof (pay slip). How to calculate 12 weeks? Even though u work only 1 day in a week for this industry, it is considered as 1 week. In short, you need to have 12 pay slips.

Documents Needed
2) 12 pay Slips
3) Application fees (NZD 140 for Malaysian)
    - by credit card / bank draft only

    - Yes, u need to post your original passport!!! So make sure u photocopy your passport before post.
5) 2 recent passport size photos attached to the form
6) Evidence of an outward ticket from New Zealand/ sufficient fund to buy one.
   - I didn't buy an outward ticket at that moment, so I requested bank officer to verify (means chop and sign) on my printed account summary of NZ. ( Request the bank personnel to print or print it at ATM!)

Send all of this to the nearest Immigration New Zealand Branch

And wait for good news~
This is what you gonna get in your passport~

Tips for Visa Extension
1) You need to apply this 30 days before your visa expired!
2) You may request for a letter of service from the factory you work for as a proof of working. Of course, this is not a must. ( Of course I did it since I suggested this, Yes, I am timid type and I want to make sure everything goes well)
2) Never save money on post, please go for a registered post/ courier to make sure the safety of your passport! You can always ignore this if you think your passport is not valuable.
3) You can cut the cost by posting the application form together with your friends in ONE envelope because the posting cost is depends on the size of envelope. Of course, please arrange well so that the officer never confuse on the documents.

Fai Kee Fish Head Mee Hoon 辉记 @ Ipoh

I think those who are from Ipoh should be familiar with this shop. If u born in Ipoh and you never taste this, then u better pay a visit to this restaurant.

Yes, the best fish head mee hoon restaurant. Whenever we talked about fish head mee hoon, we will automatically relate it with this shop, it is just like whenever you talk about oranges, you will think of Sunkist. I rarely eat fish head mee hoon simply because the taste doesn't induce me much. However, the fish head mee hoon in this restaurant is really attracted me. And I often have my breakfast here.

Fish Meat mee hoon without evaporated milk - RM6.00

The best part for the whole dish is the soup!! The soup is really tempting with the sweet and sourly taste (due to salted vegetable) and you can't resist by keep on slurping the soup. Yummy~ If you prefer to have a more traditional one, you may request to add the evaporated milk.

Yes, actually I ordered fish meat instead of fish head. Can you see how big piece of the meat ? They never stingy in serving the big portion of the fish meat. Fresh, big, and more are another selling point of the bowl!

Fried Pork Meat Bead - RM 6.00 (for medium size)
Another food/ snack that you shouldn't missed out in this restaurant is the fried pork meat!!! This freshly fried Pork Meat Bead give a chewy and juicy taste.

One thing to beware is the portion of the Meehoon is really big, ladies like me who have a small little stomach only during in the morning  can order 2 bowls for three person instead of everyone get one. I can never finish one big bowl even though after years visited to this shop.
